QuickBooks Pro Plus 2024 Discount Deals: What Buyers Should Know

A discount on QuickBooks Pro Plus 2024 looks tempting, but desktop sales have wound down. Here is what to check before you buy a discounted copy.

QuickBooks Pro Plus 2024 Discount Deals: What Buyers Should Know

Deal roundups keep surfacing steep price cuts on QuickBooks Pro Plus 2024, and a PCMag listing put the desktop software at 44 percent off. A discount that deep gets attention, and it raises fair questions. We look at what the product is, why the price dropped, and what to check before you buy.

A subscription, not a one-time license

Pro Plus is the subscription tier of Intuit’s desktop accounting software. The annual fee covers the program, product updates, and some connected services for one year. It is not a perpetual license that you buy once and keep forever. Payroll, where it is offered, is a separate add-on with its own pricing.

Why were the discounts so steep?

Intuit has been winding down its traditional desktop lineup. During 2024 it stopped selling new Pro Plus and Premier Plus subscriptions to new customers in the United States. The company steered buyers toward QuickBooks Online and the Enterprise edition instead. Resellers were then left with stock to move, and deal sites passed the savings along. A deep discount on end-of-line software is not a scam signal by itself, but it changes the value math.

Should you still buy a discounted copy?

That depends on what you need and on how much supported life the copy has left. Intuit supports each desktop version for roughly three years after release, then the online services and security updates stop. A 2024 edition bought cheaply therefore has a shorter useful life than the sticker suggests.

Before you pay, confirm the seller is an authorized reseller. Check how many user seats the copy covers, and whether the price starts a new subscription or renews an existing one. Ask whether payroll is included, because that service is billed separately.

What happens when support ends?

The program keeps opening, and your company file stays on your machine. The connected services do not survive: bank feeds, payroll, payments, and linked apps stop working. Security updates stop too. For a system that touches your bank accounts, that combination is a real risk. Plan the move to a supported product before the cutoff, not after something breaks.

If you already bought it

Back up your company file before you install anything. The move from an older desktop version rewrites the file, and a copy damaged mid-upgrade is the most common way people lose weeks of work. Keep the backup somewhere the installer cannot touch, such as an external drive or a cloud folder you control. Then install, activate, and let the program upgrade the file.

We work on the data side of these transitions: converting files between desktop editions, moving desktop data into QuickBooks Online, and repairing files that fail to upgrade. If an upgrade stalls with an error message, see our QuickBooks error code repair service.
