QuickBooks Online Bank Accounts Card Reorders Itself or Goes Blank

QuickBooks Online users report the Bank Accounts dashboard card changing order on its own and sometimes going blank. Here is what it means and what to do.

NEWSQUICKBOOKY

The home dashboard in QuickBooks Online includes a Bank Accounts card that lists your connected accounts and their balances. Community posts describe an odd behavior: the card reorders itself during the day, and at times it disappears entirely. It is irritating, but it is a display problem, not a bookkeeping one.

Is this a new QuickBooks feature?

Almost certainly not. A card that shuffles itself and then goes blank behaves like a rendering glitch, not a deliberate design. Features are announced, documented, and consistent. This is neither, so we would treat it as a bug until the vendor says otherwise.

Is your account data at risk?

No. The card is a summary layer that sits on top of your records. Your bank accounts, balances, and transactions live in your chart of accounts and your bank feeds. If the card blanks out, the underlying data is untouched.

The reordering does carry one small practical risk. Muscle memory makes you click the account you expect in a familiar spot. Read the account name before you click, since the one you land on may not be the one you meant.

Steps that usually restore the card

Start with a full page refresh. Intermittent blanking often clears on a reload.

Next, confirm the card has not been hidden. QuickBooks Online lets you toggle dashboard cards on and off, and a hidden card looks the same as a missing one. Open your dashboard’s customize or settings option and check the card is switched on.

Cards can also be rearranged by dragging. A single, one-time change may be an accidental drag. Drag the card back where you want it and see whether it stays put.

If the problem continues, try a private or incognito window, or a different browser. When the card behaves there, clear the cache in your main browser. Stale cached content is a common cause of dashboard oddities.

Check balances another way

You do not have to wait for the card to cooperate. Open your chart of accounts to see every account with its current balance, or run a balance sheet report. Both draw directly from your records, which makes them a more authoritative view than any dashboard card.

If the card keeps acting up

Keep a short log of when it happens, which browser you are using, and whether other users in the same file see it too. A clear pattern makes the issue far easier to diagnose, and the dashboard is the vendor’s to fix through their own feedback channel.

In the meantime, treat the chart of accounts as your source of truth. The card is a convenience, and a flaky convenience never has to be your only window into your balances.
