QuickBooks Online 2026 Pricing: Plans, Add-Ons, and Your Real Cost

How QuickBooks Online pricing works in 2026, which plan tiers and add-ons drive the real cost, and how to check what your subscription will renew at.

NEWSQUICKBOOKY

Every year the same question resurfaces: what does QuickBooks Online cost now? The honest answer for 2026 is that there is no single number. Intuit sells QuickBooks Online as a monthly subscription across several tiers. What you actually pay depends on your plan, the add-ons you switch on, and whether you signed up at a promotional rate.

The list price is only a starting point

Intuit publishes four main tiers for small businesses: Simple Start, Essentials, Plus, and Advanced, arranged from least to most expensive. The figure you see advertised is usually a promotional rate aimed at new subscribers. When the promo period ends, the standard rate takes over automatically.

Prices also vary by country, so a figure quoted in US coverage tells you little about UK or Canadian pricing. And the list price does not stand still. Intuit has raised subscription prices repeatedly in recent years, which is why so many people search for an updated figure each January. Treat any number you read, ours included, as a starting point for your own check.

Which plan do you actually need?

The tiers differ mainly in how many people can work in the file and which features are switched on. Simple Start is the entry point for a single user: invoicing, expense tracking, and basic reports. Essentials adds bill management and extra seats. Plus is where projects, inventory tracking, and budgets appear. Advanced targets larger teams, with more seats, batch tools, and priority support.

Our suggestion is blunt: pay for the tier your workflows need today. Plenty of small businesses sit on Plus but never open a single project or inventory record. A downgrade is far cheaper than capacity you never use.

How do add-ons change the monthly total?

The subscription is only the core. Payroll is billed as a separate service, and its monthly cost can exceed the accounting plan it sits on. Card processing carries its own per-transaction fees. Extra seats, time tracking, and third-party apps connected through the ecosystem each add their own line.

Before you compare headline prices anywhere, list every add-on you rely on. Price the bundle, not the base plan.

Your renewal price may not match the headline

Two things create the gap. The first is promotional pricing: the discounted rate runs for a fixed period, then the standard rate applies without a second prompt. The second is the quiet increase. When Intuit adjusts prices for existing subscribers, notice usually arrives by email before your next billing date, and it is easy to miss among everything else.

Is a retention offer worth chasing? Some subscribers are shown a discounted rate when they start a cancellation request. If you were already weighing a move, it can be a genuine saving. Read the terms first, because many of these offers run for a limited period only.

How do you find your real number?

Sign in and open the subscription or billing section from the settings gear. It shows your current plan, the rate you are charged, every attached add-on, and your next renewal date. Your bank or card statement is the second source of truth: the amount that actually clears each month is the only figure that matters.

Run that check before your renewal date, not after. If the total has crept past what the features are worth to you, the tiers above and below deserve a fresh look.

Our advice before your next renewal

Write down three things: your current tier, the add-ons you genuinely use, and the monthly total from your last statement. Compare that list against what each tier includes and be honest about what you open each week. If you are paying for projects or inventory you never touch, moving down a tier is the simplest saving available.

If the review points you toward a bigger change, such as leaving QuickBooks Desktop or consolidating company files, the data has to come across cleanly. We do that work ourselves; see our QuickBooks data conversion service for what a migration involves.
