QuickBooks Desktop display issues on multi-monitor setups
QuickBooks Desktop windows may open off-screen or fail to display correctly on multi-monitor setups. Here is how to relocate hidden windows and fix scaling

When QuickBooks Desktop is used across multiple monitors, windows sometimes open on a screen that is no longer connected, or the interface appears stretched, cut off, or too small to read. These are display and scaling issues, not data problems — your company file is typically unaffected.
Windows opening off-screen
If you click a window in QuickBooks and nothing appears to happen, the window may be opening on a monitor that was previously connected but is now disconnected or powered off. QuickBooks remembers the last position of many windows and tries to restore it.
To bring the window back:
- With QuickBooks active, press Alt + Spacebar.
- Press M (or select Move from the menu).
- Press an arrow key once to begin moving the window.
- Move your mouse — the window should follow your cursor so you can drag it to your active screen.
DPI scaling and blurry text
On high-resolution displays, QuickBooks Desktop may appear blurry or have text that is difficult to read. This is common on 4K monitors or when mixing displays with different resolutions.
Right-click the QuickBooks desktop shortcut, select Properties, go to the Compatibility tab, and click Change high DPI settings. Enable the option to override high DPI scaling behavior and set it to System or System (Enhanced) to see which produces sharper text.
Preventing the problem
If you regularly disconnect a secondary monitor, close all open QuickBooks windows on that screen before switching to a single-display setup. This helps QuickBooks remember the correct position for the next session.
