QBO GST/HST Line 101 Sales and Revenue: Report Workaround

QuickBooks Online's updated reports no longer open the Line 101 Sales and Revenue total into detail. Here is a temporary workaround for GST/HST reviewers.

QBO GST/HST Line 101 Sales and Revenue: Report Workaround

QuickBooks Online’s GST/HST Summary report used to be the fastest way to see what feeds Line 101 Sales and Revenue. One click on the total opened the transactions behind it. A recent update to QBO Reports has taken that click away. Here is what changed and how we recommend running the same review with a different report.

The update removed the click-through

The GST/HST Summary report still shows Line 101 Sales and Revenue. What has changed is the link. The total no longer opens a detail report the way it once did, so you cannot click through to the transactions and regroup them by income account or tax status.

Reviewers need the detail

Line 101 is a summary of sales. To review it properly, you need to see what is inside it. Out of Scope and Exempt are different codes, and using the wrong one leaves a transaction in the wrong place. The old report made that split obvious. It also let you compare sales totals by income account to the profit and loss report. Without the click-through, that comparison takes extra steps.

A temporary workaround

Run a transaction-level report for the same period as the GST/HST Summary report. Add the GST/HST status or tax code column, and filter to the sales and revenue accounts that make up Line 101. The total should match the summary. If it does, scan the tax status codes for anything recorded as Out of Scope in an account that normally carries taxable sales. Save the report with those filters so the review takes seconds next time.

Check your totals now

The new layout is a report problem, not a data problem. Your transactions are still there, and the underlying totals have not changed. Intuit has heard this feedback from bookkeepers. Until the click-through returns, a saved transaction report is the most reliable way to get the same view. Run it once for your next filing period, confirm Line 101, and keep the report saved for the review.
