Intuit Launches QuickBooks Cash Business Bank Account: What to Know

Intuit's QuickBooks Cash is a business bank account built into QuickBooks. We cover what it is, who it suits, and what to check before you open one.

Intuit Launches QuickBooks Cash Business Bank Account: What to Know

Intuit has stepped from bookkeeping into banking. QuickBooks Cash, later renamed QuickBooks Checking, is a business bank account you open and run from inside QuickBooks. Here is what it is, what it promises, and what we would check before moving operating money into it.

What is QuickBooks Cash?

QuickBooks Cash is a business bank account aimed at small firms in the United States. You open it from within QuickBooks rather than at a branch. Intuit is not a bank itself. The account sits with a partner chartered bank, and deposits are eligible for federal deposit insurance through that bank, up to the standard limit. That structure matters. Your money is held by a regulated bank behind the product, not by the software company.

The case Intuit makes for it

The pitch is speed and connection. Payments taken through QuickBooks Payments can settle straight into the account, where QuickBooks matches each deposit to its invoice. Cash flow reporting draws on live figures because the balance already lives in your books. Intuit also added envelopes, virtual pots you carve from the balance for sales tax, payroll, or a buffer. Money for fixed obligations stays visible instead of melting into one number.

The businesses it suits best

It suits owners who already run the whole business through QuickBooks and want payments and banking in one login. For a small team, that single view is a genuine convenience. It is a weaker fit if you depend on branch banking or a lending relationship you do not want to disturb. Keep your existing account in those cases. Nothing in QuickBooks requires you to switch.

Points to check before you open one

Read the current fee and interest terms yourself. Both have changed since launch, so early coverage no longer applies. Confirm eligibility for your entity type and state before you apply.

If you hold large balances, ask your accountant how the insurance limit interacts with other deposits at the same partner bank. For accountants, the appeal is fewer unmatched items at month end. The risk is clients adopting the account quietly, so raise it during onboarding.

A safer way to switch

Our suggested approach is parallel running. Open the account, list every automatic debit, bank feed, and payment connection tied to your old account, and move them one at a time. Keep both sets of statements until you complete a clean reconciliation. Done that way, the switch tidies your books rather than tangling them.
