Intuit Assist in QuickBooks Online: What It Is and What to Watch
Intuit has introduced Intuit Assist, an AI helper inside QuickBooks Online. We look at what it does, where it appears, and how to use it safely.

Intuit has introduced Intuit Assist, an AI helper that now appears inside QuickBooks Online and other products in the Intuit lineup. It answers questions, drafts messages, and summarizes activity in your books. We have put together a short guide to what it does and where you should be careful.
What is Intuit Assist?
Intuit Assist is Intuit’s generative AI assistant. It is built into the software rather than installed separately. Inside QuickBooks Online it works as a conversational panel. You ask a question in plain language, and it answers using what it can see in your company data.
Where does it appear?
The main home for it, as far as QuickBooks users are concerned, is QuickBooks Online. Intuit has also brought the same assistant to other products in its range, including TurboTax and Mailchimp. Not every account sees the same features at the same time. If you cannot find it, it has most likely not reached your account yet.
What can it actually do?
The best tasks for it are the simple ones. It can point you to a report or explain a process in the software. It can summarize your cash position in a sentence or two. It can also draft outgoing messages, such as payment reminders on overdue invoices, which you review before anything is sent. Treat its output as a fast first draft, never as a finished answer.
Can you trust the answers?
Not blindly. Generative assistants can sound confident and still be wrong, and the risk is highest with numbers. Check any figure it quotes against the report it came from. A total, a balance, or the claimed status of an invoice should all be verified the old way. On tax and compliance questions, treat what it says as a starting point, not as advice.
Does it read your books?
It answers from your own company data, so its usefulness depends on the state of your books. Clean data gets better answers. Messy data gets confident nonsense. Be equally careful with what you type in. If you look after books for several companies, keep each conversation inside the company it belongs to, and never paste one firm’s figures into another firm’s file.
Can you switch it off?
If you would rather not use it, look in the settings area of QuickBooks Online for the relevant control. What you see there depends on your account and on how Intuit has rolled the feature out to you. If no option appears, the off switch has not reached your account yet.
A sensible way to start
Begin with questions you can check. Ask for a figure you already know, then compare the answer with the report itself. If it holds up, give it a slightly harder task next time. If it does not, you have found the limit early and cheaply. Meet any new assistant the same way: slowly, with your own eyes on the numbers.
