Intuit Academy Tax Level 1: Can the Certificate Get You Hired?
We look at what Intuit Academy tax certificates cover, whether Tax Level 1 helps with seasonal hiring, and what to do after you finish the course.

A question keeps surfacing in accounting communities: after finishing Intuit’s tax courses, will the company itself hire you? It usually comes from people who received a course email, completed the introductory certificate, and are unsure what Tax Level 1 is worth. Here is our read on what the certificates do, what they do not do, and what to do next.
What do the Intuit Academy courses cover?
Intuit Academy offers self-paced tax training, including a foundational tax preparation course and the Tax Level 1 course. The foundational course walks through core US individual tax concepts such as income, deductions, and credits. Level 1 goes deeper into preparing an actual return. Finish the coursework and pass the assessment, and you earn a certificate you can list on a resume or professional profile. There is no fee, which is one reason the invitations spread so widely by email.
A certificate is not a license
The Intuit certificates are vendor credentials. They show you completed the vendor’s training, and they carry the most weight within that vendor’s own hiring process. They are not a CPA, an enrolled agent license, or a PTIN. If you plan to prepare returns for payment, you need a PTIN from the IRS regardless of any academy certificate. Keep that distinction clear before you build a career plan around the coursework.
Does finishing Tax Level 1 get you hired?
Sometimes, but not automatically. Intuit hires seasonal tax staff ahead of filing season, and its academy courses have served as a recruiting channel for those roles. Completion can help an application stand out for entry-level seasonal positions, such as tax associate and support roles. Most of these openings are seasonal, some part-time, and they wind down when the season ends. Expert-level roles on TurboTax Live typically require a professional credential such as CPA or enrolled agent.
Should you wait for an invitation?
A common belief is that Intuit will reach out on its own once you finish the courses. Some candidates do get invitations, but waiting passively is a weak strategy. If you want a seasonal role, apply through Intuit’s own careers site when postings appear, usually in the months before filing season. Attach the certificate to the application. Treat any invitation as a bonus, not a plan.
Where else can the certificate help?
The credential travels beyond one employer. Independent tax and bookkeeping practices, including many that live in QuickBooks all year, hire preparers each season, and a documented course of study helps when you have little paid experience. Volunteering with an IRS-sponsored program such as VITA adds supervised practice on real returns that hiring managers respect. Coursework plus hands-on practice is far stronger than either alone.
Sensible next steps
Finish Level 1 while the material is fresh. Get your PTIN if you intend to prepare returns for payment. Add the certificate, with its completion date, to your resume and professional profile. Then build proof of skill: a set of practice returns, volunteer hours, or a paid season at a small practice. That record, more than the certificate itself, is what turns coursework into an offer.
