QuickBooks Enterprise Holds Its Mid-Market Ground as Intuit's Cloud Suite Closes In

Intuit's fiscal 2025 annual report keeps QuickBooks Enterprise as its mid-market desktop subscription while Intuit Enterprise Suite moves into the same territory.

QuickBooks Enterprise Holds Its Mid-Market Ground as Intuit's Cloud Suite Closes In

QuickBooks Enterprise keeps its place as Intuit’s desktop product for mid-market businesses in Intuit’s annual report for fiscal 2025, sold on a subscription basis and offered for download or as a hosted solution, even as Intuit attributes the segment’s 16 percent revenue growth to its Online Ecosystem.

How the report positions Enterprise

Intuit draws a clear line between its two desktop subscriptions: QuickBooks Desktop Plus is designed for small businesses, while QuickBooks Enterprise targets mid-market businesses with more complex needs. Enterprise ships with industry-specific reports and features for a range of sectors:

  • Contractor
  • Manufacturing
  • Wholesale and Distribution
  • Retail
  • Nonprofit
  • Professional Services
  • Accountants

The delivery model is stated plainly: customers can run Enterprise as a download or as a hosted solution. The report announces no lifecycle change, discontinuation, or rebranding for the product.

Platform direction around the desktop line

The report describes a platform strategy that keeps Desktop in the loop. Payment processing, spanning credit card, debit card, Apple Pay, and ACH services for in-person and card-not-present payments, is described as deeply integrated into QuickBooks Online, Desktop, and Intuit Enterprise Suite, with instant deposit and payment dispute protection options for eligible customers. Payroll is likewise available as online or desktop solutions, sold on a subscription basis, integrating with QuickBooks Online and Desktop offerings and Intuit Enterprise Suite, or purchasable standalone.

At the same time, Intuit points to Intuit Enterprise Suite, built on the familiar QuickBooks Online interface with multi-entity accounting and multi-dimensional reporting, as its solution for complex mid-market companies. That places the cloud suite in the same mid-market territory Enterprise serves on the desktop side.

Segment performance and a new name

On August 1, 2024, Intuit renamed its Small Business & Self-Employed segment as the Global Business Solutions segment, a change it says reflects the global reach of the Mailchimp and QuickBooks platform, its focus on both small and mid-market businesses, and its vision of an all-in-one platform customers use to grow and run their business.

Global Business Solutions revenue grew 16 percent in fiscal 2025, part of a companywide increase that lifted total net revenue by $2.5 billion, and Intuit attributes the segment growth to Online Ecosystem revenue. The excerpts provide no Desktop-specific growth figure. The report defines Desktop Ecosystem revenue as coming from QuickBooks Desktop software subscriptions, meaning Desktop Plus, Enterprise, and ProAdvisor Program memberships, plus desktop workforce solutions including payroll products.

A reorganization also moved certain technology and customer success costs to the corporate level, with $1.4 billion reclassified out of Global Business Solutions for fiscal 2024 and $1.3 billion for fiscal 2023, so segment trends now reflect a reshaped cost base.

What the report leaves unsaid

The excerpts we reviewed contain no risk factor language aimed at Enterprise, no pricing detail, and no Desktop revenue total. For desktop customers, the takeaway is continuity: Enterprise remains the named mid-market desktop subscription, hosted or downloaded, inside a segment whose growth story Intuit tells through its online ecosystem.
