How to Set Up QuickBooks Payments - Simple Guide

We show you how to set up QuickBooks Payments so you can start accepting card and debit card payments directly from invoices, sales receipts, or online checkout pages. The feature works inside QuickBooks Online and requires a linked bank account for deposits. Follow the steps below to get started quickly and securely.

Before You Begin

We recommend that you confirm you have admin access to your QuickBooks Online company, a valid Intuit account, and a bank that supports ACH transfers. Also check that your subscription includes Payments or that you are ready to add the service.

Enable QuickBooks Payments

We start by opening Settings (gear icon) from the left navigation menu, then choosing Account and Settings. Select the Payments tab and click Learn more or Set up Payments. Follow the prompts to enter your business details such as legal name, address, and tax ID. Review the terms and submit the application.

Connect Your Bank Account

After approval, return to the Payments tab and select Connect Bank. Use the search field to locate your financial institution, enter your online banking credentials, and allow QuickBooks to create a secure link. Choose the checking or savings account where you want funds deposited, and confirm the connection.

Start Accepting Payments

Open an invoice or sales receipt, click Receive payment, and turn on the Card option. You can enter the card details manually or let the customer pay via the emailed payment link. Funds typically appear in your linked bank account within one to two business days.
