How to Check Whether QuickBooks Online Is Down

QuickBooks Online seems unresponsive? Here is how to tell whether the problem is an Intuit service outage or something on your computer.

How to Check Whether QuickBooks Online Is Down

When QuickBooks Online suddenly stops responding, the first question is usually whether the problem is on your end or Intuit’s. Outages do happen, but local issues are just as common. Here is how we recommend sorting out which is which.

Start With the Intuit Status Page

The fastest way to confirm a widespread problem is to check Intuit’s official status page. It lists current incidents, scheduled maintenance, and recent resolutions across QuickBooks Online, payroll, payments, and related services. If you see an active flag for your region or product, the issue is almost certainly on Intuit’s side and you will need to wait for a fix.

Check Community Reports

When the status page still shows “all systems go” but you are locked out, other users are often the best early warning system. The QuickBooks Community forums and sites like Downdetector aggregate user-submitted error reports in real time. A sudden spike in complaints about login failures or slow loading usually points to a developing outage that has not yet been officially acknowledged.

Rule Out Your Own Connection

Before assuming the worst, confirm the problem is not local:

  • Try signing in from a different browser or an incognito/private window.
  • Clear your browser cache and cookies, then reload the sign-in page.
  • Check whether a different website loads normally to verify your internet connection.
  • Try accessing QuickBooks Online from a different device on a different network.

If other sites work fine but QuickBooks remains inaccessible across multiple devices and browsers, an Intuit-side issue is the likely culprit.

What to Do During an Outage

If you confirm a service disruption, there is not much to do except wait it out. Intuit typically posts updates to the status page as they work through the problem. Avoid repeatedly attempting to log in or process payments, as this can sometimes create duplicate entries when the service comes back online. If you have urgent payroll or invoicing deadlines, note the times you attempted the actions so you can reconcile accurately once access is restored.
