Fix "Access Denied" When Logging Into QuickBooks Online
Locked out of QuickBooks Online with an "Access Denied" message on one specific computer or network? Here are the practical steps to isolate and resolve the block.

When QuickBooks Online (QBO) suddenly displays an “Access Denied” message, it usually means the connection is being actively blocked before it ever reaches your account dashboard. If you can log in successfully from a different computer, a different location, or a mobile network—but not from your primary office desktop—the issue is almost certainly tied to that specific device or local network, not your QBO subscription.
This situation frequently arises after a security alert or account recovery process. Here is how to approach the block.
Check for IP and Network Blocks
If your account was recently compromised, Intuit’s fraud prevention systems may have temporarily flagged your office’s IP address. Because your office network likely shares a single public IP address across all connected devices, that block would prevent any computer in the building from connecting, even if your credentials are perfectly correct.
To test this, disconnect your office desktop from the main network and connect it to a mobile hotspot. If QBO loads normally over the hotspot, your office IP is the culprit. You will need to work with your internet service provider to reset or change your public IP address, or wait for Intuit’s security team to clear the flag during the escalation process.
Clear Browser and Security Interference
Browser caches and local security software can trigger false access denials. Even if you have already cleared your cache, try opening an Incognito or Private browsing window to ensure no lingering cookies or extensions are interfering.
Additionally, check your local antivirus or firewall settings. Overly aggressive security software can block connections to Intuit’s authentication servers. Temporarily disable your security suite to see if the login goes through. If it does, you will need to add QuickBooks Online and Intuit’s domains to your software’s whitelist.
Verify Browser Profiles and Device Trust
Sometimes the block is tied to a specific browser profile rather than the whole computer. If you recently recovered the account, the browser might be holding onto a corrupted session token. Try accessing QBO through a completely different browser (for example, using Edge if you usually use Chrome) to see if the issue is browser-specific.
If you are managing the block yourself and need to get back to work immediately, isolating the network connection is usually the fastest path forward. For broader troubleshooting on QBO login errors and browser configurations, our QuickBooks Online support hub provides further steps.
