QuickBooks Time Renamed to QuickBooks Workforce: Install Steps and Quirks

The QuickBooks Time mobile app is now QuickBooks Workforce; here is how the rename affects installs, iPad searches, and device permissions.

COMMUNITY ISSUESQUICKBOOKY

A rename inside Intuit’s mobile lineup has been generating steady questions in community threads. The QuickBooks Time mobile app is now QuickBooks Workforce, with a new logo attached. The accepted answer, posted in the Canadian help pages and credited to Intuit, settles the core worry quickly: this is the same app, and nothing is required from existing users. Settings and data stay exactly as they were. The confusion lives in the details, and those are worth walking through.

Same app, new badge

The visible change is the name and the logo. Underneath, the install you already have is the app you will keep using. Time tracked under the old name remains where it was, and the sign-in you used before still applies. Nobody needs to delete, reinstall, or re-link anything.

One group does have homework. Admins who run QuickBooks Time for a crew must switch on the right settings and permissions before team members can use the Workforce app. The accepted answer lists this step first, and it is the only part of the rename that adds work for anyone.

Where did the app go on iPhone and Android?

Searching for the old name is the first dead end, because the store listing now carries the new name only. On an iPhone, open the App Store and search for QuickBooks Workforce. Before installing, open the Information section of the listing. Compatibility will read Works on this iPhone when your device qualifies, and Size shows the storage the download needs. Select Get, then Open once the install finishes.

Google Play offers the same checks for Android. Under About this app, Compatibility lists your active devices and marks qualifying ones as Works on your device. App info shows the download size. Select Install, then Open. From there the sign-in flow is unchanged.

The iPad search trap

iPad owners hit a wall before any of that. The app runs on an iPad but will not appear in an initial search, because the App Store filters results to iPad-only titles by default. The fix takes seconds. Switch the filter from iPad only to iPhone only, search again, and select Download app. The install then proceeds like any other, and the compatibility and size checks work the same way once the listing appears.

Why does the notification prompt still say QuickBooks Time?

Right after install, a popup asks whether the app may send you notifications, and it addresses the app by its old name. That label is stale rather than a sign of a second app. The rename has not caught up everywhere inside the software yet. The walkthrough video attached to the answer shows the old branding too, and the answer itself flags that gap. Choose Allow or Don’t Allow as you prefer; either choice can be revisited later in your phone’s notification settings.

Settings the install changes on its own

Installing Workforce adjusts device settings automatically so the app can function. Two are worth knowing by name. The first is notifications, the popup above. The second is location access, because the app uses GPS to track time for team members. That GPS use is also what sits behind most storage and battery questions once the app is running, so a modest footprint on both is normal rather than a fault.

Before you sign in and start tracking time, review the permission screens and confirm both are set the way your crew needs. A permission blocked at install can leave a tracker silent, and the correction is one screen away in the phone’s settings. Crew leads will save themselves follow-up questions by checking this before roll-out day rather than after it.

Staying current

The answer closes with updates, and the timing makes that advice practical. Turn on automatic updates in your app store so later changes, including any cleanup of the old name, arrive without effort. If you prefer manual control, update from the app’s store listing the way you would any other app. Manual checks matter most right after a rename, while screens and labels inside the app are still settling.

The net effect of all this is small. Same product, same data, new badge. The items worth remembering are the iPad filter switch, the stale popup label, and the permissions admins must enable in QuickBooks Time. Everything else in the rename sorts itself out.
