QuickBooks Desktop Bank Feeds: Users Told to Reconnect After Security Updates

QuickBooks Desktop users are losing online banking downloads until they reconnect; here is the accepted refresh procedure and the banks affected.

COMMUNITY ISSUESQUICKBOOKY

A familiar failure is showing up in QuickBooks Desktop: bank feeds go quiet, downloads return nothing, and users assume the worst about their company files. The actual trigger is routine. The vendor updates the bank feed service on a security schedule, and several banks now carry published deadlines for reconnecting. Until the link is rebuilt, transactions for those accounts stop arriving.

Why does a bank feed connection stop downloading?

The software maker updates bank feeds on a regular schedule, citing security and efficiency. When one of those updates lands, the existing link between a bank and a company file can go stale. New transactions stop appearing in the Bank Feeds Center, and manual downloads return nothing. Your bank’s own website and mobile app keep working throughout, which is why the silence inside the software is confusing. The file itself is not damaged. The accepted fix is procedural: walk the account through bank feed setup again so the newer connection takes effect.

Which banks are affected?

The guidance we reviewed names four institutions. FirstBank of Colorado appears under two listings, one of them marked ICM, with a reconnect deadline of July 31, 2026. Bank of America carries a deadline of July 6, 2026. Navy Federal Credit Union follows on July 28, 2026. American Express changed over on March 30, 2023.

Naming is the trap during setup. Some banks now appear under listings tagged specifically for the desktop product. Bank of America users should choose the Bank of America listing marked for QuickBooks Desktop, and Navy Federal has its own equivalent. American Express splits in two: card, charge card, and checking accounts use one listing, while authorized delegates who are not the account holder use a separate one. Picking the wrong listing can leave the account on the older connection.

Before you reconnect, clear the runway

The accepted solution asks you to prepare the file first. Open the File menu and switch to single-user mode; if the menu already offers Switch to Multi-user Mode, you are in the right state already. Then go to Company, then My Company, and use Manage Your Account to sign in to your Intuit account. You can also create an account there, or recover a user ID or password.

Finish the housekeeping next. Void or delete any pending online payments or checks sitting in the queue. Add and match the transactions you have already downloaded. Items left pending can cause trouble once the feed is re-enrolled.

How do you run the refresh?

With the file ready, the reconnection itself is short. Follow the accepted steps in order.

  1. Open the Banking menu, choose Bank Feeds, then select Set Up Bank Feed for an Account.
  2. Type your bank’s name and select it from the Most Common or Matching Results list.
  3. Select Continue.
  4. Enter the username and the PIN or password you use with your bank, then select Connect. Your bank may prompt you for a one-time passcode.
  5. Select the accounts you want to connect, choose Connect, then select Close.

Two variations are normal. Some banks take authentication outside the program and open a browser window; finish signing in there, then return to the software. Others send a one-time passcode during the connect step. Neither is a sign of trouble.

What should you expect after the refresh?

Go back to the Banking menu, choose Bank Feeds, and open the Bank Feeds Center. In the Bank Accounts section, select the account you want to pull from, then choose Download Transactions. Open the Transaction List and review and match what arrives. If downloads had stalled for several days, that first batch may cover the whole gap, so match carefully.

Nothing about your historical data changes. The refresh only re-establishes the pipe between your bank and the account in your company file.

The short version

No repair tool or third-party intervention is part of the accepted fix. The remedy is procedural: single-user mode, a signed-in Intuit account, a clean payment queue, then a fresh pass through bank feed setup using the correct desktop-tagged listing. The published deadlines suggest the older connections stop working once each date passes. If your feed has gone silent at one of the affected banks, the refresh is the first move, not a diagnosis.
