Mailchimp users must reconnect Canva after the November 2024 integration update
Mailchimp users who linked Canva before November 2024 must disconnect the old integration and reconnect to pick up the updated design sync.
Intuit replaced the Mailchimp integration for Canva in November 2024, and links created under the earlier version did not carry over. Accounts connected before that release stay on the old integration until the connection is rebuilt by hand. That reconnect is the accepted fix, and the steps involved are short.
Who ran into it
The pairing joins Canva’s design tools to Mailchimp’s campaign builder. Marketers use Canva for headers, social tiles, and product graphics, then place those images into emails, web pages, and ads. The affected group is specific: accounts that linked the two apps before the November release. Those connections keep working the old way, and the refreshed sync never appears, so the trouble reads like a missing feature rather than a malfunction.
Connections first made after the release are already current. If the two apps were linked after that date, the integration already matches the updated guidance.
A new integration, not an upgrade
Intuit handled the change as a replacement rather than an in-place update, and that decision explains the manual step. An update can be pushed to existing accounts, but a new connection needs fresh authorization, and authorization only happens through the connect flow. The vendor’s help material offers no migration path, so the disconnect is a requirement, not optional housekeeping. The date comes from that same material.
Disconnect, then reconnect
The existing integration has to be removed before the new one is authorized. Both versions are managed from the Canva integration page inside the Mailchimp account, and the Connect button there starts the current flow.
- Open the Canva integration details page in the Mailchimp account and click Connect.
- Review the steps shown in the popup, then click Continue.
- Enter the email address tied to the Canva account and click Continue. The same prompt starts a signup flow for anyone without a Canva account.
- Read the disclaimers, then click Authorize.
Authorization completes the link, and the updated sync becomes available. Nothing else needs rebuilding; the connection itself is the piece being replaced.
The sync copies images, not links
Once linked, Canva designs can be browsed and imported from inside Mailchimp, and the imports land with the account’s other stored images. The import asks for a file format first, with common choices like PNG and JPG. From there the graphics drop into email campaigns, the website builder, social posts, and ads without a separate upload. Designs can be finished in Canva first and brought across once final, which suits teams that iterate before publishing.
The main constraint is that imports arrive as static images. HTML links embedded in a Canva file do not transfer, so any interactive behavior must be rebuilt on the Mailchimp side. An edited design also needs importing again, since each transfer is a fresh copy rather than a live link to the original.
Design pieces, not whole emails
Intuit frames the integration as a tool for custom design elements inside campaigns. The guidance warns against one pattern in particular: a single large Canva design used as the email itself. A Canva image cannot carry multiple links, so layouts that depend on clickable regions lose their navigation. Emails built around one oversized graphic also carry a higher risk of tripping spam filters. Separate images with one link each remain fine; the limit sits within a single image.
A Canva account is required on the other end. Free accounts can connect, though the template selection stays limited to a subset of designs.
No impact on QuickBooks data
The integration sits entirely on the marketing side of Intuit’s ecosystem. Nothing in the reconnect touches QuickBooks company files or accounting data. Readers running both products under one Intuit login can make the change safely; it affects only how Mailchimp reaches Canva designs. For accounting teams, this stays a marketing tool issue, separate from bookkeeping workflows.
