How to Process Payments in QuickBooks GoPayment and the Mobile App
A walkthrough of accepting card, cash, check, and contactless payments through QuickBooks GoPayment, including Tap to Pay on iPhone setup.

QuickBooks GoPayment functions as a mobile point-of-sale tool, letting business owners accept cash, checks, and cards via a Bluetooth reader. The app also supports contactless methods like Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay, and allows transactions to be keyed in manually when hardware is unavailable.
New Sales and Customer Payments
To process a standard sale in the GoPayment app, tap the Plus icon and select New sale. Enter the total amount or add specific products and services from your items list. Select Review order, then Charge. Choose a payment method — Card Reader for hardware processing, or Key in card for manual entry. After the charge processes, select Done and choose to email or text the receipt to the customer.
For a customer payment that is not tied to a specific invoice, select the Plus icon and choose Customer payment. Select the customer or add their information. Enter the charge amount, toggle the taxable option if sales tax applies, and add memos or discounts as needed. Select the arrow icon to choose a payment method: Card Reader, Key in card, cash, or check. The check option processes payments via e-check or bank transfer.
Invoice Payments
To process a payment against an existing invoice, tap the Plus icon and select Invoice payment. Find the customer or search for them by name, then select the invoice being paid. Tap Charge and proceed with the payment method selection.
Within the QuickBooks mobile app, navigate to the ALL tab, locate Invoice payment in the Sales area, and select the invoice you need to pay.
Tap to Pay on iPhone
Tap to Pay on iPhone allows contactless card payments without additional hardware. Only business owners or company admins can enable this feature. Once enabled, team members and employees can process payments through it, and the feature becomes available across all QuickBooks mobile and GoPayment apps linked to that Company ID.
To set it up, open GoPayment and select the Menu icon, then the Gear icon. Select Tap to Pay on iPhone. Choose to continue with your current Apple ID (recommended) or use a different one. The device configuration may take several minutes to complete.
Receipts and Follow-Up
After every transaction, the app prompts you to send a receipt via email or text. This applies to new sales, customer payments, and invoice payments processed through either the GoPayment or QuickBooks mobile apps.
