Getting Started with QuickBooks Workforce Mobile App
Users often struggle to install and set up the QuickBooks Workforce app, particularly with device settings, notifications, and location permissions.
QuickBooks users trying to launch the Workforce mobile app often encounter setup hurdles that block time tracking.
Installing the QuickBooks Workforce app
To begin you must locate the app in your device’s store. On an iPhone open the App Store and search for QuickBooks Workforce. On an Android phone open Google Play and search for QuickBooks Workforce.
Check compatibility before you download. The store listing shows whether your device and operating system meet the requirements. Look for the line that reads Works on this iPhone or Works on your device.
Review the download size if storage is a concern. The information page lists the required space.
Tap Get or Install then Open to launch the app after installation finishes.
Configuring device settings for iOS
After opening the app you may see a prompt asking if QuickBooks Time can send notifications. Choose Allow or Don’t allow based on your preference.
Before signing in adjust a few system settings. Go to Settings then Battery and turn off Low Power Mode. If you have any battery saver apps verify that they do not restrict the Workforce app.
Return to Settings and select Workforce from the list.
If location tracking is required by your employer choose Location then Always and turn on Precise location.
Optionally go back to Notifications and enable Allow Notifications.
Enable Background App Refresh so the app can update content while suspended.
Finally verify that global location services are active. Navigate to Settings Privacy & Security Location Services and make sure the toggle is on.
Configuring device settings for Android
Start by opening Settings then Apps then App Management. Find and select QuickBooks Time to open its App info page.
From this page you can adjust permissions battery usage and data usage.
If location tracking is needed select Permissions then Location and choose Allow all the time. Turn on Use precise location.
Select Notifications then turn on Allow notifications and adjust any preferences you like. This step is optional.
Go back to the App info page choose Battery then select Unrestricted to prevent the system from limiting background activity.
Return to the App info page and review Mobile data or Data usage settings to ensure the app can use network resources as required.
Keeping the app updated
You can let the store handle updates automatically or you can check manually.
To enable auto‑update on iOS go to the App Store tap your profile icon then select App Updates and turn on Updates.
On Android open Google Play tap the menu icon choose Settings then Network preferences and select Auto‑update apps.
If you prefer to update manually open the store search for QuickBooks Workforce and tap Update when a new version appears.
Common symptoms and how they were resolved
Users reported that the app would not open or would crash immediately after launch. The root cause was often Low Power Mode or a battery saver app restricting background activity. Disabling those settings resolved the issue.
Another frequent problem was missing time entries despite clocking in. This happened when location permissions were set to While Using the App instead of Always or when Precise location was turned off. Adjusting the location settings to Always and enabling Precise location fixed the symptom.
Some users noticed that notifications never arrived even after enabling them inside the app. The solution was to grant the app permission to send notifications at the system level and to turn on Background App Refresh.
A few users experienced slow performance or delayed syncing. Ensuring that the app had unrestricted battery usage and that mobile data was allowed for the app improved responsiveness.
By following the installation steps configuring device settings correctly and keeping the app up to date most users were able to start tracking time with QuickBooks Workforce without further trouble.
