Bank Error 107 in QuickBooks Online: What Stops the Sync
Bank error 107 in QuickBooks Online signals a message from your financial institution that needs attention — here is how to clear it and restore the connection.

Bank error 107 in QuickBooks Online is not a software malfunction. It is a signal from your bank or credit-card provider that something on their end requires your attention before they will release any further transaction data. When the error appears, the feed goes quiet — no new transactions download, and the update indicator on the Banking tab typically turns red or displays an alert badge next to the affected account.
What the Error Actually Means
QuickBooks Online communicates with thousands of financial institutions through a third-party aggregation layer. When your bank posts a message inside your online banking portal — a new terms-of-service agreement, a security notice, a marketing acknowledgement, or a prompt to update your profile — the aggregator cannot pull transactions past that screen. Error 107 is the code that surfaces when that wall goes up. The data is not lost and the connection is not broken in the traditional sense; the bank is simply waiting for you to act.
Symptoms Users See
The most common pattern is a feed that worked normally one day and then abruptly stops the next. When you open the Transactions tab and select Banking, the account in question displays an error banner rather than a transaction count. Clicking the alert or hovering over the warning icon reveals the 107 code along with a prompt to sign in to your bank’s website. No amount of retrying the update from inside QuickBooks will push transactions through until the underlying message is cleared.
The Fix: Clear the Message at the Source
The accepted resolution is straightforward but must happen entirely outside QuickBooks Online.
Step 1 — Sign In to Your Bank’s Portal Directly
Open a separate browser tab and navigate to your bank or credit-card issuer’s website. Log in with the credentials you normally use — not the ones stored in QuickBooks, but the ones you use for direct online banking. Navigate to your account dashboard and look for any prominent banner, pop-up, or notification icon. Common items that trigger error 107 include updated privacy policies, revised electronic-delivery consent forms, and mandatory security questions. Acknowledge or dismiss every pending prompt until you reach a clean account overview screen with no outstanding messages.
Step 2 — Force a Manual Update in QuickBooks Online
Once the bank portal is clear, return to QuickBooks Online. From the left-hand navigation menu, click Transactions, then select Banking. Locate the affected account card and click the small pencil icon in its upper-right corner. Choose Edit account info from the drop-down menu, then click Save and close without changing any settings — this action can nudge the connection to refresh. Next, click the Update button (the circular arrow icon) at the top-right of the Banking screen to trigger a manual sync. If the bank portal was the only obstacle, transactions should begin flowing within a few minutes.
Step 3 — Re-authenticate If Prompted
Some institutions require you to re-enter credentials inside QuickBooks after a 107 error. If the manual update returns a sign-in prompt, click the notice on the account card, enter your banking username and password in the modal window that appears, and complete any multi-factor authentication challenge your bank sends. Once authenticated, click Update again.
When the Error Persists
If you have confirmed that no messages remain on the bank’s website and the feed still will not resume after a manual update, the issue may sit with the aggregation service rather than your bank portal. In that situation, disconnecting and reconnecting the account through the Edit account info dialog can re-establish the link. Use the Disconnect this account on save checkbox, save, then re-add the account by selecting Add account and searching for your bank again. Match it to the existing QuickBooks account rather than creating a duplicate. For broader QuickBooks Online help with banking connections that repeatedly fail, additional troubleshooting may be needed on the aggregator’s side.
A Note on Timing
Bank error 107 can appear in waves — particularly after a financial institution updates its online platform or revises its legal agreements. If multiple accounts at the same bank stop syncing simultaneously, the cause is almost certainly a bank-wide prompt rather than a problem with individual credentials or with QuickBooks itself.
