Today in QuickBooks: Payslips, Revenue Timing, and the Sequence Deal
Payslips hide until a pay run is finalised, cash or accrual decides when revenue counts, and Intuit buys Sequence in a mid-market ERP push.
- Payroll payslip questions dominated the community desk this week, so we open with the full fix.
- Revenue-timing threads kept circling one setting - cash or accrual - and it now matters to AI bank feeds too.
- Elsewhere: Intuit buys Sequence, QuickBooks Online retires tags, and an Enterprise guide still recommends a POS Intuit retired.
Payslips stay hidden until you finalise
Missing payslips in QuickBooks Online Advanced Payroll almost always come down to pay-run status. Payslips appear only once a run is finalised - a draft run shows nothing, and no setting forces them out early. Emailing adds a second requirement: set up a sender address before copies can go out. Printing follows the same rule. And bulk sending hits a security limit, so large runs go out in batches rather than one send. We walk through the accepted answer here.
Cash or accrual decides when revenue counts
The accounting method does more than label a report. Cash basis counts revenue when payment lands; accrual counts it when you deliver - invoice or not. Every report inherits the cash/accrual default, so checking that setting is the first step before you run anything. Timing matters more with AI in the loop: we tested QuickBooks Online’s AI on customer deposits and accrual timing, and it missed month end, letting deposits that land before delivery book at the wrong moment. Review period-end entries before you close. Cash versus accrual, explained, and our AI bank feeds test.
In company news
Intuit is buying Sequence, an AI revenue startup, in a push at mid-market ERP buyers - the clearest signal yet of where QuickBooks is headed. Closer to home, QuickBooks Online is retiring tags, and custom fields carry plan limits worth checking before you migrate. The October 2025 Enterprise In-Depth Guide, meanwhile, still tells Retail edition users to pair with Point of Sale - software Intuit has retired.
